Beginning February 2, 2025, the Kent District Library - Cascade Branch will undergo a refresh to better serve our community. During this time, some services will be temporarily relocated into the Good and Skutt rooms of the Wisner Center to make way for construction in the main library portion of the building. Construction is estimated to be completed in early June 2025. Public meetings will still be held in the Friends room.

Important Dates

February 2 - The library will be closed in preparation for construction.

February 9 - The library will be closed in preparation for construction. You may choose any of the other 19 KDL locations to book private rooms. 

February 10 – Library services transition into the Good and Skutt rooms in the Wisner Center and will include a limited browsable collection including our most popular items until the library reopens in June. 
  • Holds will be available for pickup during the refresh.  
  • You may choose to return items at any of the other 19 KDL locations or to the library during open hours inside of the Wisner Center.  
  • Construction vehicles will be onsite and there will be reduced parking available. Curbside service will remain available in its current location.  
  • During this time, programs will be offered as space allows. Please visit kdl.org/events for information on programs at all KDL branches.
​February 16 - The library will be closed in preparation for construction.
February 17 - Library services will resume in the Wisner Center.

Background

Did you know the KDL – Cascade Township Branch and the Township have partnered to provide library and recreational services at the current location for more than 25 years?

Recognizing the need for updates to better serve the community’s evolving needs, a 2018 needs inventory identified several areas for improvement:

  • Outdated and inadequate lighting
  • Damage to external doors
  • Worn carpeting, paint, and wall coverings
  • Roof damage
  • Outdated furnishings

Additionally, the community shared suggestions through KDL's idea board, which included expanding indoor and outdoor spaces, adding more seating, and maintaining the cozy atmosphere while increasing natural light.

Based on this feedback, Progressive AE developed an initial concept plan that includes:

  • Upgrading the lighting system and doors
  • Relocating the children’s area to the fish tank side
  • Removing walls for more space for activities
  • Modifying shelving for better light and access
  • Slight expansions to the staff workroom and book sale area
  • Upgrading bathrooms for improved accessibility

Funding

This project is funded through an expired millage, with additional operational funds secured through the millage renewal approved in November 2024.
